In April, the Intellectual Property Law Section of the Dallas Bar Association intends to award up to one scholarship to students from each of the three North Texas law schools: Texas A&M University School of Law, Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, and University of North Texas Dallas College of Law.

The scholarships will be awarded to students who have demonstrated strong potential for leadership in the intellectual property community based on demonstrated interest in intellectual property law, leadership experience, and academic achievement. Significant consideration also will be given to financial need and diversity in the practice of intellectual property law.

Your application should include a personal statement, resume, undergraduate transcript, any graduate school transcript, and law school transcript. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable. Your personal statement should address the following criteria in no more than 500 words:

  1. Demonstrated interest in intellectual property law (for example through coursework, internships, employment, student organization activities, bar activities, publications, and participation in relevant moot court competitions);
  2. Leadership experience (for example through student organization activities);
  3. Academic achievement (for example through undergraduate, graduate, and law school achievements);
  4. Financial need (include any relevant information about your financial need); and
  5. Contribution to diversity (include any relevant statement about your ability to contribute to diversity in the practice of intellectual property law).

Applications will be accepted from law students enrolled as 2L or 3L students (or the equivalent thereof for part-time students) during the current academic year at Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, the University of North Texas Dallas College of Law, and the Texas A&M University School of Law.

All scholarship awards are subject to final approval by the Council of the IP Section of the Dallas Bar Association.
